Life Without Color

Someone asked, "What would your life be without color?" I answered,

"My life would be pallid and pale without color.
Each day would be drab, dreary and dismal.
There'd be no primary colors, no rainbows,
no yellow sunshine, no red-blue-yellow sunsets
and no white clouds. No white snow or black storm clouds.
I'd walk in an indistinct and neutral existence.
No green trees, no green grass, no blue seas, no blue skies,
would leave me cheerless and dry. My face would not turn red
with anger or embarrassment. My face would not turn white
with fear or pain. I'd not grow green with envy.
Nothing would be just black and white.
My life would be full of motionless emotion,
if there were no color.

  1. I feel the same way. I experience a lot of emotion in color. Whenever I see someone, or do a tarot reading for someone, what I get more often than not, is a flash of color that represents them.

    1. Melissa Rose, thanks for commenting! That sounds interesting. Learning to create colors through words that bring beauty to life is a wonderful calling that we must embrace. I'm re-discovering this calling anew. I really enjoy your writing!

  2. Oh, I would also feel the exact same way if our beautiful world were void of colors. I feel sad for people who are color blind. I know most color blind people only have trouble distinguishing between colors, but there is just so much beauty in every color that we see and experience and life would truly be bleak without that beauty. This was a great post and I'm glad you shared it!

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting! Hard to imagine a world with out color. As I searched for photos to use on my post, it was hard to find any without color. After about half an hour, the ones I posted were the closest I could come. Coincidentally, there were mirror images. Oh, yes, as I wrote, I grieved a moment for the color-blind--I knew a few people that were. Thanks again, Mandi Lynn!
