pain intrudes like unwanted guest
keeps you from your very best

pain explodes like liquid fire,
searing heat with bubbling ire

pain protrudes like metallic splinters,
throbbing hands, swollen fingers

pain erupts like lava's flames,
burning through bulging brain

pain pulses like a phantom limb
numbing as the lights go dim

pain lingers like a spectral ghost
draining power from the host

pain aches like a clock that ticks
dulling, constant, chronic clicks

pain remains like a shadow dark,
clinging, gnawing at its mark
